Task 7 - Final Design of 3D model

You can see my final 3D model below. I stuck together the cardboard by using duct tape to keep the pieces together. I personally think that my final project could be improved in several ways for instance I believe I could improve my textures and the overall appearance of my project. However I do think that my final project meets the tasks criteria which was to create a 3D forest. Even though there is a few improvements I could do to the project if I had more time, I am satisfied with my final 3D model.

Task 6 - Final 2D designs

In this task I will be taking photographs of the final environment as flats. This means that the environment is not stuck together yet and is not 3D. this will allow you to see each design individually as a flat.

Bottom

I created the 3d tree by cutting out a tree shape on four different pieces of paper, I then attached my material and folded the pieces of paper to make them 'stick out' i then proceeded by sticking the pieces together, finally making a 3D tree. I like this feature and i think it gives more of a 3D, realistic feel to the final environment.

right

On the right side of my environment I wanted to create a sensed forest effect although I dint want to make the space to crowded. I created several tree trunks using card and then sticking my bark texture on top. I then proceed by sticking rocks onto the environment, the ricks is rolled up paper dabbed with black acrylic paint from a sponge.

left
The left side of the environment is my favorite due to the pond. I originally had difficulty creating the texture for the water although I am satisfied with how it finally looks, i feel like it gives the forest a more enchanted, happy effect which is what I wanted to succeed.

Task 5 - Alternative environments 'flats'

In this task you can see a alternative idea for my 3d environment. This task is similar to the previous task where i sketched alternative ideas for my environment although for this task We used a piece of paper which we folded up so it could stand up like our final 3D environment should do. We then sketched and practiced what our final environment could look like. Below you can see a photograph image of one of my alternative designs.

Task 4 - Surface and Colour Examples

Introduction

I have produced a different range of surface textures and colour examples for my enchanted Forest environment. In this Task I will be displaying and briefly explaining why and how I created each individual surface texture.

Testing Different textures

Here are a few examples of the textures i have created using different methods.

Acrylic Paint and sponge

Random Acrylic Painting marks

Masking tape and acrylic

News Paper and acrylic

Acrylic paint using sponge and bubble wrap

Tissue and coffee paper

Tissue and water color

Tissue Paper and Bleach

Tissue Paper and water color

Watercolor and Masking tape

Mushroom Textures

In this selection you will see the different textures which I have created to help create huge mushrooms with a weird, magical appearance to them.

Mushroom Head
First I created a texture which I could Use as the head of the mushroom. I decided to go to the typical red mush room with white dots on. I used acrylic red paint and a sponge to create the base colour of the mushrooms head although I also added a bit of orange and brown just to give the mushroom a more interesting colour, for instance instead of the mushroom's head just being a solid red it has light and dark shades as well. I used white acrylic paint and  a size 6 paintbrush which is a medium to small paint brush with a long tip to help create the different size dots. I didn't want the dots to be the same so I purposely made sure the dots were a different size and slightly a different shape to help add a weird but interesting appearance.

Mushroom Stem

This texture is going to be used as the mushroom's stem.  Below you can see a image which has two picture's which were my main inspiration for the texture for the stem.

To create my texture I began by scrunching up tissue paper to create the wrinkly, old effect which I then glued down using a glue stick. I then slightly dipped a sponge in yellow acrylic paint and began stippling  it onto the tissue paper to create a dirty, mouldy stem. After I added red and brown acrylic paint to the outer age of the texture to create depth, as well as a bit in the centre just to make the mould look like its spreading, making it a bit more realistic and more interesting than just a white basic stem.

'Floor' Textures

In this section I am going to be explaining the different textures which I will be using on the mainly as the 'floor' of the environment.

Grass Texture
First, I created a grass texture for the forest environment. To create this texture I simply used a sponge and using a stippling motion I painted the 'grass' onto the paper. I first used a green acrylic paint and slowly started adding brown, yellow and orange paint to the texture to give the grass a dying look. When you look outside at a field the grass Is never perfectly green, you can usually see several different colours in just one simple field. This is why I added so many different shades of greens and several colours, it helps give it a more lifelike and genuine appearance than just a solid green.

Water Texture
To give the  water a rippling effect I used a scrunched up tissue paper. I personally think this works well because it helps give the water texture a more authentic appearance.  I used brown, blue and green acrylic paint to try and create a water texture a similar colour to the example images below. For example, on the left you can see a lake which has a rippling effect and on the right you can see a lake which has the same rippling effect but with a more darker, dirtier colour.

Task 3 - Initial sketches for environment

In this Task I am going to be sketching several  3D Forest environments idea's using my concept board for my main inspiration. The Sketches will be annotated and labelled to help explain each individual Idea.

Sketch Idea #01
For my First Idea I decided to Create a environment which includes having Hill's on either side of the 3D project and In the centre there will be a mud path leading up to a waterfall. The waterfall is on a rocky/Muddy Mountain which has a dense Forrest on top. Although in this environment you will only be able to see the trunks of the tree's. The Main attention of this environment will be the waterfall and the mushrooms which are located more towards the front of the environment.
Initial Sketch Idea No:1

Sketch Idea #02
My second sketch Is one of my favourites although I personally think it might be a bit to busy. In the centre of the environment there is a pathway which leads to a bridge which is going over a small river. The pathway is going to be made out of a old, destroyed stone texture which has a small dirt path going slightly off it into the dense tree's to the right of the environment. On the right you will see a big, densed Forrest which includes A lot of tree's with a few mushrooms just to add a more enchanted atmosphere. On the left Hand side you will see 2 standing up trees and a bush with a lake, bridge and another dense forest in the background. In the far back background I've decided to add mountains just to give the environment a bit more depth and more eye catching although like mentioned before, I am afraid this might make the environment to busy and overwhelming. Behind the mountains I am going to give the sky a blue/red effect to make the sky look like it is at dawn and the environment is set early in the morning. This will give the environment a reddish glow caused by haze or clouds.
Sketch Idea No:2

Sketch Idea #03
For this sketch Idea, I've decided to make everything a bit more simple. On the ground their will be grass and a mud path leading to a bridge, similar to the previous sketches. Although, the main attention will be on the mushrooms which will be standing up on the right and left side of the 3D environment. One of the mushrooms will be tilted up and have a unusual texture as the underneath the mushroom to help create a more unusual, enchanted, magical forest.  In the background of the environment you will be able to see tree trunks with a sunset background.

Task 2 - Concept boards

Group Concept boards

In lesson we got split up into 4 different groups to create a concept board based on a specific environment. The different environments include space, a walled city, forest and urban streets. In my group particular we had to create a concept board using images which are related to the space environment. This included pictures of planets, stations and included pictures with more of an industrial look.

You can see the different group concept boards below.

Space Environment

In This concept board you can see easily that the color theme of the images are mostly Red and the images are more industrial than just planets. This basically means that in this concept board there are images which represent an industrial space such as space stations. This is because for the space environment it is based in a mining settlement which is exploiting the planet’s resources and developing renewable energy technologies for Earth. So I think images which include an industrial space station will be perfect to help inspire ideas for a mining settlement.

Enchanted Forest

In this concept board the group added images which will help generate images for a enchanted forest Environment. The enchanted forest is a forest which is mysterious but also has a Erie effect to it. To capture this effect the group has included images of a dark forest which has long, thin trees which are close together.

      walled city

In this concept board the group has included images which capture the architecture in Rome itself. This environment is based on the Roman Empire so on the concept board there is images of the different statues, arches and different examples of the stone textures which will be helpful for the final design.

Urban Street

For this concept board the group had to collect images which are set in the Victorian era for instance in the concept board you can see images which show streets and houses from the Victorian age, the streets were usually small and narrow and the houses were small and compact. The concept board also includes images of lamppost and well known landmarks such as big Ben.

Personal concept board

In this section I am including my own personal concept board which is based around images on my own chosen environment. For instance, In the previous task we got given an environment to do a concept board for although in this task we personally get to choose which environment we want to do. I chose the enchanted forest environment simply because I am creating a 3D Forest environment so in this concept board I mainly focused on the collecting different images which I could use as an inspiration towards my 3D environment and for my final design.

As you can see below I have created a concept board which has a various of different images. In my concept board I mainly focused on how the trees are going to look for instance I picked pictures which are of a dense forest.
This means the trees crowd together. I have also included images which have inspired me to include different assets in my final design for example I have included pictures of a forest with a mountain background, Lakes, Path ways and bridges to help generate ideas on what could be in an enchanted forest. I also want to include 'Magic mushrooms' which are all twisted and have an interesting appearance to them. I have also chosen images to fit a dark Erie but magical theme for example in most of my images on my concept board they are quite dark and have a green glow in the sky which helps gives the environment an Erie effect.

Task 1 - Spider Diagram

In this task you can see the spider diagrams which the class created. Below we start sketching for our 3D model we first need to create a spider diagram to help inspire ideas for our environment. Below you can see the photographs of the spider diagrams for each environment.
